[00:00:00] If you were awake again last night, staring at the ceiling, wondering why nothing works, not the pills, not the supplements, not the routines, this episode is for you. Because if you've tried everything and you still can't sleep, the problem isn't that you're missing the next trick or magic supplement.
It's that you've been chasing sleep hacks that were never designed to fix what's actually keeping your body awake. I am saying this after working with hundreds of people who wanted to sleep more than anything .People who had tried CBTI, had sleep studies, rotated through supplements, and even relied on medication, and still woke up at 3:00 AM every night or tossed and turned all night.
In this episode, you're going to understand why most sleep hacks fail, why adding more tools often make sleep worse, and what actually has to change for your brain to finally settle down at night. I'll walk you through why the standard approaches to insomnia fall [00:01:00] short, how they keep you stuck in that trial and error mode, and how to think about sleep in a way that actually leads to lasting results, not just a good night here and there.
Let's get into it.
Last week I got on a call with someone who looked completely defeated. Right away she said, it takes me hours to fall asleep. I'm lucky if I get three hours a night. She's been living like that for a year and a half. And then she said something that really stopped me. She said, I'm scared to think about what my life will look like if I don't figure this out.
I feel terrible. I don't want to live my life sleep deprived. She wasn't exaggerating. I could hear how exhausted she was, not just physically but emotionally.
And she hadn't been sitting around doing nothing, right. She'd been working with a dietician. Her doctor prescribed medication. Both helped a little, but never for long.
She tried CBTI. That helped too, but it didn't solve the problem. Magnesium worked for [00:02:00] a while, then it didn't. Same with THC and CBD. Every time something helped, it felt hopeful and then the rug got pulled out from under her again.
What was different about her though was that she already understood something most people don't. She had been listening to this podcast and she knew that everything she tried so far wasn't based on what her body actually needed to sleep normally.
She's a scientist and so she said, I want to see the data from the lab tests. I want to understand what's going on.
And the reason she decided to work together wasn't just to sleep more hours. She wants to wake up feeling refreshed, to be in a better mood, to focus at work again, and to actually want to go out with friends and be social. She doesn't want a trick. She wants her life back.
And her story is exactly why most sleep hacks don't work, even when they help at first.
I'll be right back to the show in a second, but have you [00:03:00] been trying all the things to sleep better, and yet you're still lying awake at night and tired every day?
If you're ready to stop guessing and fall asleep easily, stay asleep all night and wake up feeling rested, that's exactly what I help people do in the Complete Sleep Solution Program, and you're welcome to apply for the program at the link in the description.
All right, if you're listening to this episode so far and thinking, I'm tired of trying all the hacks and gadgets and supplements, there's something important that you need to hear. Most sleep approaches fail not because you did them wrong, but because they aren't addressing what's actually keeping you awake.
Sleep hygiene can support sleep, but it's not going to fix chronic insomnia. I'm sure you've tried this. If your body can't calm down at night, a darker room and a relaxing bedtime routine aren't enough to change that.
Sleeping pills don't fix sleep, right? They sedate you. They override the symptoms without [00:04:00] actually changing what's driving the problem. They're a bandaid, and that's why they often stop working or leave you groggy, anxious, or dependent on them.
CBTI focuses almost entirely on the mental and behavioral side of sleep. And while that is very important, it doesn't address what's happening inside your body that is keeping you awake.
And maybe you've been told to try a sleep study and done a sleep study. They're useful for one main reason, and that's ruling out sleep apnea. They aren't going to show why you can't sleep.
And random supplements. They're guessing. Magnesium helps some people. If your body needs magnesium, so does glycine and GABA and CBT and melatonin.
But without understanding what your body actually needs, you're just experimenting with these things, which is why something might override your system for a few nights.
But it's not really getting to all the underlying imbalances in the body. So none of these [00:05:00] approaches are wrong. They just aren't complete. And this is why people are still struggling so much with insomnia, even though, you know, if you look up how to sleep better, you're gonna get the same advice over and over again.
If you go to your doctor, he's gonna prescribe a sleeping pill. He is gonna tell you to get a sleep study. He is gonna recommend CBTI. And if these things aren't helping, it's because there's something more going on. There are real measurable imbalances in your body. So things like high cortisol at night, gut issues, hormone imbalances, neurotransmitter imbalances, liver detox issues, toxins and more, all of which can keep the nervous system stuck in fight or flight at night.
And until you uncover why your body can't sleep, every hack is going to fail. Even the ones that may have worked a little bit at the beginning and gave you some hope.
[00:06:00] So the only hack that's going to work is to find why your body isn't able to sleep normally. It's to uncover the root causes with objective data from functional lab testing.
So these are things that don't necessarily show up on blood work, especially because the lab's reference ranges are showing an average of the population. So they're showing what's normal, but not what's actually optimal.
And when we look at gut health, look at hormones, look at neurotransmitters outside of blood work, we can find what's actually going on and what your body is missing and what we need to get rid of.
So when you find and address the root cause, then you can fall asleep easily, you can stay asleep all night. Or if you do wake up, you go back to sleep very quickly. And most important, you wake up, rested and have plenty of energy and are in a good mood, the way that we're supposed to be [00:07:00] living.
So I just want you to know if you take anything from this, that sleep is always fixable. You are meant to sleep well, and if you can't, there's a reason why and we can find out what it is and fix it.
If you've tried everything and you're ready to stop guessing, working with someone who can interpret that data and turn it into a clear plan is the only hack that will finally give you the sleep you need.
So again, if you wanna get started with this in the Complete Sleep Solution Program with me, you can apply at the link in the description.
And if you wanna learn more about the imbalances in the body that are affecting sleep, then you can watch the next video called Silent Sleep Robbers: five Hidden Imbalances keeping You Awake.
