[00:00:00] Martha Lewis: if you've tried everything for better sleep and nothing works, peptides might be the missing piece. In this video, I'm breaking down five of my favorite peptides that can calm inflammation, balance your metabolism and blood sugar, and help you get truly restorative sleep. If you've been wondering which peptides are worth trying for sleep, this one's for you.
Now I am going to be honest with you. I am new to peptides. One month ago I was against peptides. I really don't like drugs. I don't like taking prescription drugs unless absolutely necessary. I definitely like to do things more naturally, so that's always going to be my first choice. But I have been seeing so many of my colleagues who are getting into peptides and just having amazing results for themselves and their clients.
And so I think that this can be just [00:01:00] another tool to use, especially. in people who are trying to do everything right and they just aren't getting better. And sometimes I see this with my clients, it's like there's a lot going on in the gut. They've already tried to do a lot of things and it's just hard to.
Fully get better and recover. And so this especially is where I think peptides are going to be such a help. So really briefly, I just want to explain them because I know a lot of people are new to peptides and it helped me to understand the difference between peptides and traditional medications. So peptides are just short chains of amino acids or proteins that are biologically similar to what is already in the body.
And unlike traditional pharmaceutical drugs that tend to affect the entire body, they have this systemic effect. Peptides target specific receptors, so they [00:02:00] tend to cause fewer side effects and rarely trigger immune reactions that. Drugs can trigger. And so they're really just helping to fine tune the signaling in the body by supporting or boosting the body's own natural function so they aren't shutting things down or overpowering the entire system like traditional drugs do.
And many of these peptides are FDA approved for certain conditions and have been studied for 20 years now. So we think that peptides are. Are new, but they have been around for a long time for certain conditions, and so there have been clinical trials done on many of them showing how safe they are.
Now I also wanna start out by saying I am not a doctor, so I am not prescribing or you know, recommending peptides. My purpose is to provide education from a health perspective. And I [00:03:00] also want to add that there are contraindications and lab markers to look at. Not everyone should just go be getting on peptides .
I have also partnered with a physician led peptide source that is doing third party testing. They're in an approved facility for making these peptides. And so you are going through a doctor to get these prescribed. The doctor is looking at your. Intake forms, making sure that you are healthy enough to be taking peptides.
And I think this is so much safer than trying to get peptides on the black market, trying to reconstitute them yourselves. The partner that I'm working with is called Ellie MD, and so you get all the peptides already mixed for you. They give you the way to inject them. They give you the alcohol pads, they give you lots of education resources.
You can have a consult with a doctor. So it's a great way, [00:04:00] I think to, for me as a health coach, to be able to give some education about peptides. And then there is a doctor who is actually prescribing them and overseeing everything. Now I also wanna say that peptides are not a magic pill. So I'm not about to tell you about one peptide you can take that is going to transform your sleep.
So they are more like, if you think about it, like condiments. So if you have a plate of food. Your ketchup and mustard or whatever, that's like what the peptides are. So what's actually on the plate are the foundations, and these are key. And this is why working with a health coach while you're doing peptides is so important because I can recommend or I can make sure that you're doing the foundations and that is going to mean that the peptides are gonna work more effectively.
You're gonna have fewer side effects and that your body is going to be as healthy as possible, which is really what [00:05:00] we're looking for, and probably why you want to do a peptide. So you know, making sure you're having the right diet, you're getting enough protein, you're moving your body, you're doing things to support your circadian rhythm, like getting sunlight in the morning, you're supporting your nervous system.
All of those things have to happen first before you get on peptides. So let's get into the five peptides I think are most promising for sleep, and the first one can help specifically with sleep. Now the studies out there aren't showing that it helps with sleep, but anecdotally this peptide has a lot of people have reported so much improvement with sleep, and it is what is called a growth hormone secretagogue.
So what that means is that it is helping increase growth hormone in your body. And the one I'm going to start recommending for clients is called Smolin. [00:06:00] And so there are others in this category that affect growth hormone such as Tesamorelin Ipamorelin, but while they can help with sleep, what I've learned is that Tessa Molin Ipamorelin can also affect cortisol.
So I'm really hesitant to use these. For my clients with sleep issues, because for most people with sleep issues, cortisol is dysregulated. So I don't want anything stimulating cortisol too much. And so that's why these two can really tend to be too much for people with nervous system dysregulation, with autoimmunity.
And for women in midlife like myself who tend to be more sensitive to things, so I. Instead am opting for sermorelin, which is much more gentle than tesser and ipam. And what it does is it tells the pituitary gland to make and release more of your growth hormone. And this tends to decline as we age.
But growth hormone is so [00:07:00] important for supporting muscle, for supporting fat loss recovery and brain function, and it's actually been studied since 1997 and it's believed to also help with healthier aging. Now, I will say I don't think that this is a magic pill or a magic peptide because it isn't addressing the reasons why you weren't sleeping.
So the next four peptides I'm gonna talk about aren't known for sleep at all, but I think that they will indirectly affect sleep by lowering inflammation, supporting detox, balancing blood sugar, and more So by really getting to the root of why you weren't sleeping, instead of just trying to, use something that's going to make you sleep if your body's still at a balance.
I just don't think it's gonna be enough to help. Now if you're interested in fixing your sleep and possibly using peptides, I'm now including education about peptides and access to them in my one-on-one coaching programs. [00:08:00] So if you wanna learn more about how I help people with sleep and the bonus that I'm going to do with peptides, go to the sleep detective.com and you can also schedule a free consultation if you're ready to get started with one of my programs.
And that link is in the description. Now let's get into the next four peptides. The next ones are actually two that go together. So they're called BPC 1 57 and TB 500. They're also known as the Wolverine Stack. And if these things are new to you, I know that all the abbreviations and stuff are confusing.
You don't necessarily need to worry about memorizing all of them. But I hope that this, gives you some education about what is possible. So what these two do is they really help with inflammation and healing, especially from injury. So BPC 1 57 is from a naturally occurring protein in gastric juice, and so it can promote blood vessel formation [00:09:00] and can also enhance repair of tendons, ligaments, muscles, and the gut.
So it can be especially beneficial for things like leaky gut. Food sensitivities, IBS, ulcerative colitis, et cetera. Now, TB 500 can really help with inflammation, promote tissue regeneration and support systemic healing, and can enhance recovery from injury, trauma, or chronic inflammation. So these two are often combined for enhanced recovery.
But they're definitely going to work best with the right nutrition if you're doing strength training and exercising and living that healthy lifestyle. But I'm excited about these because I think it's gonna be especially helpful for my clients with a lot of issues and pathogens in the gut. Especially people who've tried lots of things, and it just seems the gut has such a hard time recovering.
Now, another one I'm going to recommend is like an immune [00:10:00] system trainer, and it's great at improving responses to infections. It's called Thymosin alpha one or TA one. So this can also support antiviral anti. Inflammatory pathways, and it's known to be good for chronic infections such as viral and bacterial infections, Lyme, bold, h pylori, et cetera, and it can also help modulate autoimmunity and can help with nervous system issues.
Things that a lot of people dealing with sleep are dealing. It can also be combined with another peptide called Xymogen for more gentle immune support. And this can be great for someone who gets sick all the time, travels on planes a lot, so they're exposed to things all the time and to help reset after an acute infection.
And the XYMOGEN has been known to have few side effects and has been used in Eastern Europe for decades. So there are lots of studies about it from Eastern Europe. So again, I think that this. Can just help by reducing inflammation and [00:11:00] helping the body deal with these chronic infections that are sometimes hard to get rid of.
So I'm really excited about this one as well. Now another one that I am super excited to try personally because I tend to have a hard time detoxing no matter what I do. So I rarely drink anymore. I do all the right things. I use all natural personal care products and eat organic food, and all those things.
But I do have a genetic tendency to have a hard time detoxing. I had the M-T-H-F-R. Mutation. I also have some other genetic things that make it harder for me to detox and I also abused my my liver for decades by drinking too much. So not that I was an alcoholic, I just yeah, I used to have a lot of fun in college and in my twenties and thirties.
So the one that I am excited to try for this reason is glutathione. And this is available in supplement [00:12:00] form. It's available through in IV form. I think in, in an injectable peptide it can be even more powerful. So glutathione is a master antioxidant. And so it's super important for detox, for immunity and for our mitochondria that produce all of the energy in the body.
And so it, this can be really helpful for people dealing with mold toxicity and other toxins. With fatigue. with high oxidative stress with liver issues and chronic inflammation. So this is one that I am very excited to try, and I'm sure I'll be talking more about it in another episode after I've experienced it and some of my clients have used it as well.
Now the last one I wanna talk about might be surprising because it's known most for weight loss now, probably the most well-known peptide. Is Ozempic, which is [00:13:00] semaglutide or a GLP one. However, what I am going to try and what I will be recommending to my clients who are interested in this is called Tirzepatide.
So this is a GLP one and a GIP. So what that means is that it targets. Two receptor sites. So instead of just GLP one, it also targets GIP. So this kind of like the second generation of peptides for weight loss. And because it's newer and it targets these two receptors, it tends to have fewer side effects.
Than the ones you hear about with Ozempic. And I do wanna say this can be used for someone who doesn't necessarily want to lose weight, although for me, I would love to lose the last 10 pounds that I feel won't budge no matter what I do. Like I eat a very healthy diet, 95% whole food. Organic. I limit carbs.
I exercise, I'm doing strength [00:14:00] training and cardio. Like I know how to be healthy. I've been living a healthy lifestyle for a long time, but my body just doesn't want to lose this weight. And this can happen, especially for women in midlife and men in midlife. And I think anyone who's dealt with chronic infections, like I had a parasite I think for 13 years before I found out about it.
My body hasn't been in balance for a long time, even though I've tried to do all the right things. And so this is who it's perfect for, especially in what's called a microdose or a really low dose. So the weight loss dose is pretty high. Say it starts at 25 milligrams, I am hearing of people getting amazing results with.
0.25 milligrams. And so what I have been learning is with all these peptides is to go low and slow. That is really going to minimize the amount of [00:15:00] side effects that someone might have to where it's very rare for, for someone taking 0.25 milligrams of TIRZEPATIDE to have any side effects. If there are gonna be any, it can be some nausea, maybe some appetite suppression, which is partly what it's supposed to do, but those tend to go away after a week or two.
So again, this isn't just for weight loss because how it helps with weight loss is it really helps regulate our blood sugar and insulin. Now, it also does suppress appetite somewhat, but at a very low dose. This shouldn't be a problem 'cause we don't want anyone, not hungry so that they can't eat close to 2000 calories a day.
We don't. It's too stressful on your body to be eating 800 calories a day because you weren't hungry. Even though it's gonna help with weight loss, that's not gonna be healthy. So what we want is the lowest minimum dose that's going to help lose weight if necessary, but also just [00:16:00] really regulate our metabolism.
So again, microdosing starting in a much smaller dose, gives people a lot of times the results they want and really just helps the body use fuel better. So I think this is going to be huge for sleep because one of the main causes of sleep issues is the blood sugar rollercoaster? So when blood sugar is going too high and then crashing and going too high and then crashing, if that's happening during the day, it's happening at night.
And whenever blood sugar drops too low, the body releases cortisol. 'cause that puts glucose into the cells and gives us energy again. But when that's happening at night, that is going to wake us up. So it's. By helping with blood sugar and insulin. It's also helping with cortisol, which is also going to help with sleep.
So again, even though this is known for weight loss, it has so many other benefits and I'm just hearing so much about how people's [00:17:00] glucose levels are coming down, their insulin's coming down, their A1C is coming down, whether they're losing weight or not, with something like tirzepatide. So because of this, with most of my clients, I'm not actually gonna start with the first one.
I talked about Smarin, which is known for sleep. I'm actually gonna start with the others that are gonna help with the imbalances in their body that are affecting sleep, because there's not a peptide that's gonna be this magic sleep pill that we know of yet. Maybe that's coming and that will be amazing.
But I think the best way to help us sleep is to. Look at what's, the imbalances in your body that are causing the sleep issues. Because I see not being able to sleep as a sign that your body isn't healthy, even if you're like I was and doing all the right things, eating well, exercising, caring about your health.
If you can't sleep, there's something going on in your body that is keeping you [00:18:00] from being able to sleep normally. So if you want to learn more about what those things are, I recommend watching the next video. It's called The Silent Sleep Robbers, five Hidden Imbalances, keeping You Awake. I'll tell you more about the different imbalances in the body, the most common ones I see in my clients that are affecting sleep.
