Unique sleep challenges for entrepreneurs and high achievers

Entrepreneurs and high achievers have unique sleep challenges, mainly because of overworking and stress.
The truth is, you can’t go-go-go all day and expect to fall asleep easily and sleep peacefully throughout the night.
In this blog post, you’ll learn why it’s so important for entrepreneurs and high achievers to rest and play to be successful.
So, let's dive in!
Why entrepreneurs and high achievers have trouble sleeping
Many entrepreneurs and high achievers overwork, which causes stress.
Stress affects sleep can create imbalances in your body, including:
- Metabolic chaos
- Irregular cortisol levels
- Poor gut health
- Low neurotransmitters
- Depleted nutrients
When your body is out of balance, it can be difficult to fall asleep or stay asleep throughout the night.
But it is so important to get good sleep! Especially as an entrepreneur and high achiever.
Why entrepreneurs and high achievers should prioritize their sleep and health
Have you read the book Essentialism by Greg McKeown?
I read this book and it had a tremendous impact on me, especially this statement:
“The best asset we have for making a contribution to the world is ourselves. If we underinvest in ourselves, and by that I mean our minds, our bodies, and our spirits, we damage the very tool we need to make our highest contribution. One of the most common ways people—especially ambitious, successful people—damage this asset is through a lack of sleep.”
This is so true.
Here are some specific reasons why it’s so important for you to prioritize sleep:
➡️ You’ll be more productive. The research revealed that after a sleepless night, people are three times more likely to lose concentration and twice as likely to make placekeeping errors. Sleep deprivation costs American companies $63.2 billion a year in lost productivity.
➡️ You’ll make better decisions. People who sleep 5 hours a night are more likely to make riskier decisions than those who sleep 8 hours a night, according to a recent study. Twice a day, participants were asked to choose between receiving a certain amount of money or gambling the money for a higher amount with the possibility of losing it all. “At the start, less sleep didn’t influence the participants’ decisions, but as the sleep-deprived nights added up, more and more of them took the bigger risk.”
Even more interesting is that they didn’t see any difference in their decision making as they got more and more sleep deprived. So they didn’t perceive that they were taking bigger risks even though they were.
Another interesting fact is: Bill Clinton was quoted as saying that every major mistake he had made in his life had happened as a result of sleep deprivation.
➡️ You’ll be more creative and better at problem solving. Entrepreneurs need to be able to look at problems and situations from a fresh perspective. In other words, you need to be creative and innovative to solve problems in your business. Stress can shut down the creative, inquisitive, exploratory parts of your brain.
How entrepreneurs and high achievers can start to prioritize sleep and health
High levels of excitement about work (good or bad) can disrupt sleep. You know this! And I know you want to sleep well. So, how do you do it?
In some of my programs, I use functional lab testing to find out what imbalances are causing your sleep issues. Then, I create a personalized sleep plan for you and help you achieve good sleep.
But you don’t need functional lab testing to get started towards better sleep today.
You can start by knowing your purpose, without being in a hurry to get there.
This helpful thought will help you reduce your overworking and stress.
You don’t need to work 80+ hours per week to be successful in your business.
What if working all the time leads to some success, but also to burnout and poor health? What if you could be more successful by resting and getting sleep?
Conclusion
Entrepreneurs and high achievers need rest and play to be successful. And they need good sleep!
Sleep helps you be more productive, make better decisions, and utilize the creative, problem solving part of your brain. It also helps you keep your body in balance so you can optimize your health.
I know you want to sleep well. The good news is, you can!
