Samantha’s Journey From Band-Aid Sleep Fixes To Sleeping 7-9 Hours A Night
My client Samantha dealt with insomnia for 10 years.
She would see a functional doctor, get supplements that temporarily helped her, and find herself dealing with sleep issues again months later. It was like a nightmare roller coaster.
Insomnia caused her to take leave from her medical job and miss out on family events, which is what led her to find the Sleep Detective podcast.
After working together, Samantha is now sleeping 7-9 hours a night most nights and she has more energy and mental clarity than she’s had in a long time.
In this blog post you’ll learn:
- What Samantha’s test results showed
- What her personalized protocol was to solve her insomnia for good
- Samantha’s advice for anyone dealing with sleep issues
Let’s dive in!
What Samantha’s test results showed
In my sleep programs, I run 4 functional lab tests on my clients, including:
- The DUTCH test, which shows what’s going on with your sex hormones, cortisol pattern, liver function, melatonin, and more.
- The GI Map, which tells us what’s living in your gut: parasites, bacterial overgrowth and/ or candida. This test also shows how well you're digesting food, how strong your immune system is, and gives an overall snapshot of your gut health.
- The Neuro Focus Panel, which looks at 7 key neurotransmitters to identify any deficiencies or excesses.
- The Hair Tissue Mineral Analysis, which shows mineral balance (which is crucial for good sleep) and heavy metals (which destroy sleep) and gives clues about how well your adrenals, thyroid, blood sugar system and more are working.
It’s a very comprehensive look at what’s causing my clients’ insomnia.
When I ran these 4 functional lab tests on Samantha, here’s what we found:
- Gut issues
- Mineral imbalances
- Low cortisol during the day
- Stress depleted her body
What Samantha’s personalized protocol was to solve her insomnia for good
Now that we knew exactly what issues Samantha was dealing with inside her body, my team and I were able to create a personalized protocol (plan) for her to get better.
We recommended Samantha make dietary changes and follow an anti-inflammatory diet. This includes no gluten, no dairy, and increasing protein to balance blood sugar.
Samantha also received a list of supplements to take temporarily that would support her body as she healed her gut issues and mineral imbalances.
It’s important to note here that this was Samantha’s personalized protocol based on her lab test results. I wouldn’t recommend the same protocol for you, because you likely have different issues that are causing your insomnia.
Samantha’s advice for anyone dealing with sleep issues
After Samantha started following her protocol regularly, her sleep gradually got better. She felt like her sleep quality was better.
Then about 5-6 months of working together she had a setback with her progress due to life stresses. This occasionally happens with our clients.
But the good news is…her sleep got better again because she stuck with her protocol and the process, and she asked for support from my team and me.
Samantha now falls asleep faster, sleeps 7-9 hours a night most nights, has more energy and more mental clarity.
She still has those nights when she only gets 5-6 hours of sleep, but that only happens a few times a month now and she barely notices.
Samantha felt lonely and detached when she was experiencing insomnia, but she’s grateful to be sleeping better and feeling better now. If you feel that way too, Samantha recommends you get the help you need to get better.
