How to finally solve your sleep mystery
By Martha Lewis

I know it's frustrating to not be able to sleep and not know WHY, especially when you're doing all the "right" things. But I want to tell you that you can find out what those reasons are, and you can fix them.
One of my clients, Brad, is two months into The Complete Sleep Solution program and he said:
“The last three nights have been great with no pills. So, definitely getting better. I've never been more motivated. Take away a man's sleep and you get his attention. 🤪 Thanks again for all your help.”
With functional lab tests, a customized sleep plan, and support inside my program - Brad has been able to quickly fix his sleep issues. And so can you.
In this blog post, you’re going to learn how to finally solve your sleep mystery.
Find the clues you need to solve your sleep mystery
If you aren’t sleeping well, there are clues that you need to find so you can start sleeping well again.
Think about it like this…
When you’re doing a puzzle, you know what the final puzzle will look like, but you don’t know exactly how to put the pieces together to get there. The puzzle pieces themselves are like clues. When you put more and more pieces together, the clues start to come together, and you can ultimately put the puzzle together faster.
If you are having trouble sleeping, there are clues in your body that will tell you exactly why you can’t sleep. In The Complete Sleep Solution program we run functional lab tests on your body that will tell us what we need to know to solve your sleep issues.
So, in order to solve your sleep issues for good, you need to test your body to uncover those important clues.
But testing doesn’t have to be your first step. There’s something you can try before you test, if you’d like to. And it involves taking care of the low hanging fruit.
Assess and improve your diet, lifestyle, and blood sugar
When I first start working with my clients, I ask them to complete an intake form that gives me clues into their diet, lifestyle, blood sugar issues, and much more.
Before we get the results of their functional lab tests back, we often work on these areas first. These areas are the low hanging fruit.
Even if you’re eating well, primarily organic, non-processed foods, your diet can be contributing to your sleep issues. Your diet can also be contributing to blood sugar issues.
This is why I recommend you begin your journey towards solving your sleep issues with finding clues in your diet, lifestyle, and blood sugar. Make changes in those areas today and evaluate what changes with your sleep.
After you do this, functional lab tests are your next step.
Test your body to uncover why you can’t sleep
In The Complete Sleep Solution program, I use 4 functional lab tests to find out why my client’s aren’t sleeping. These are the lab tests I recommend you do on your body:
1. DUTCH - The DUTCH (Dried Urine Test for Comprehensive Hormones) is a comprehensive hormone test using dried urine that shows what’s going on with your cortisol, DHEA, sex hormones, and melatonin. High cortisol at night and sex hormone imbalance can cause sleep issues so this test is critical for anyone suffering from insomnia. This test also shows how your hormones are being broken down by your body which shows liver function.
2. GI Map - The GI Map is a stool test that tells us what's living in our gut: the good, the bad, and the pathogenic. Most of our clients have some sort of overgrowth in the gut and this is a key cause of insomnia since those creatures are nocturnal. This test also gives clues about your digestion, detoxification, immune system, and more.
3. Neuro Focus Panel - The Neuro Focus Panel looks at 7 key neurotransmitters so we can support any deficiencies and get you sleeping better as soon as possible.
4. Hair Tissue Mineral Analysis - Knowing your mineral balance and deficiencies is key to getting your whole body back in balance so you can sleep well. It also shows how your adrenals, thyroid, blood sugar, and nervous system are functioning and it looks at heavy metals which can cause neurological and liver issues.
The results of your lab tests will likely find a combination of clues
Your lab tests will have different results from someone else’s, which is why it’s so important to run these tests on yourself, instead of taking sleep advice from other people.
For example, all of my clients have gut issues, liver detox issues, mineral imbalances, and neurotransmitter issues.
But only some of my clients have blood sugar issues, food sensitivities, mold toxicity, heavy metal toxicity, as well as mindset issues around sleep such as sleep anxiety, trauma, and stress.
We use the lab tests to find your unique combination of puzzle pieces.
The key is to have all the pieces of the puzzle. Nothing is worse than a puzzle piece missing at the end. Not having all the clues necessary to solve your sleep issues can be the difference between sleeping better and not sleeping better.
The most common clues I see in my client’s lab tests are:
- High cortisol at night
- Sex hormone imbalance
- Inflammation
- An unhealthy gut
- Food sensitivities
- Liver detox issues
- Blood sugar issues
- Mold toxicity
- Mineral imbalances
- Heavy metals
- Neurotransmitter imbalances
The intake form assessment AND the results of these four lab tests give us (close to) everything we need to solve your sleep mystery, and create a personalized plan to fix it…so you can sleep well permanently!
The last clue we want to look at is in your mindset.
Find out if your mindset is contributing to sleep issues
If you can’t sleep well, you might be experiencing anxiety about sleep or negative thoughts about sleep, which can be perpetuating your sleep issues.
In my program, we make sure your mind isn’t affecting your sleep by helping you:
- Rewire your brain to change your relationship with sleep
- Eliminate sleep anxiety
- Calm your nervous system
- Manage stress with effective tools
- Address trauma that’s affecting your sleep
How to solve your sleep mystery and finally sleep well
If you aren’t sleeping well, you can fix it!
Start by assessing and improving your diet, lifestyle, and blood sugar.
Then, test your body to uncover why you can’t sleep.
In my program, we do 4 functional lab tests called the DUTCH, GI Map, Neuro Focus Panel, and Hair Tissue Mineral Analysis. The results of your lab tests will find a combination of clues to help you solve your sleep mystery for good.
You’ll also want to find out if your mindset is contributing to your sleep issues, and learn ways of dealing with your stress, anxiety, and sleep-related trauma. Sleep issues require a body and mind approach in order to solve them for good.
When you do all of these things, you will have solved your sleep mystery. You can then create a customized sleep plan for yourself, start taking action on it, and finally get a good night’s rest!
