How I Helped Matt Fix his BAD SLEEP Naturally (Matt's Story)

How I Helped Matt Fix his BAD SLEEP Naturally (Matt's Story)

One week Matt was sleeping fine. The next? He couldn't fall asleep at all.

He was only 31 years old, living a healthy lifestyle, working out regularly, and eating well. There was no obvious reason why sleep suddenly became impossible.

Sound familiar?

In this episode, my client Matt shares how he went from relying on benzodiazepines just to fall asleep to sleeping normally again—by uncovering the hidden imbalances his regular doctor never found.

When Healthy Habits Aren't Enough

Matt did everything "right." He exercised. He ate clean. But within just a week or two, falling asleep became harder and harder.

The scary part? He'd never had sleep issues before. Not once in his entire life.

His dad struggled with insomnia. His grandmother too. So part of him wondered if he was just genetically doomed to the same fate.

The Problem With Traditional Sleep Solutions

Matt tried what most people try first—over-the-counter sleep aids like melatonin, then prescriptions like Lunesta and Ambien. Nothing worked.

The only thing that actually put him to sleep? Benzodiazepines like diazepam.

But here's the thing—Matt was in his early thirties. He didn't want to depend on benzos every single night for the rest of his life. Those medications come with serious side effects and aren't meant for long-term use.

And his doctors? They had no answers. Just more pills.

What the Lab Tests Revealed

When Matt came to work with me, we ran functional lab tests that go way deeper than standard bloodwork. Here's what we found:

- Severe magnesium and calcium deficiencies – This explained the anxiety and adrenaline surges he was experiencing at night

- Low serotonin precursor (5-HTP) – Essential for sleep regulation

- Low dopamine levels – Another neurotransmitter imbalance affecting sleep

- Gut infections – Including a parasite and H. pylori

- Gluten sensitivity – Creating inflammation he didn't even know about

- Liver detox issues and heavy metals – All adding to the toxic load

It wasn't just one thing. It was a perfect storm of imbalances that finally tipped his body into insomnia.

The Turning Point: Addressing Root Causes

Matt didn't just mask his symptoms. He fixed what was actually broken.

The biggest game-changer? Getting his magnesium and calcium levels back up through supplements and Epsom salt baths. Once those minerals were restored, the constant anxiety and adrenaline rushes stopped.

He also:

- Cut out gluten (which he's still mostly avoiding)

- Temporarily eliminated dairy to heal his gut

- Took targeted supplements to address his neurotransmitter deficiencies and gut infections

- Supported his liver's detox pathways

Was it one magic pill? No. It was a combination of addressing everything that was out of balance.

How Long Did It Take?

Matt started seeing improvements within about a month—which is relatively fast. But he also caught this early. He'd only been struggling for six months before finding help.

If you've been dealing with insomnia for years or decades, it'll likely take longer. Your body needs time to heal, especially if issues have been compounding over time.

But here's what matters: Matt went from needing benzos every night to sleeping normally again.

What Matt's Doing Now

These days, Matt sleeps really well. On the rare nights he has trouble falling asleep, he might:

- Get out of bed and read

- Take a natural sleep aid from Prescriptions

- Do an Epsom salt bath

But those nights are few and far between now. Most of the time? He falls asleep without any issues.

The Genetic Component Doesn't Mean You're Doomed

Here's something important: Matt's dad and grandmother both struggled with insomnia. So yes, there was a genetic predisposition.

But genetics aren't destiny.

What the genetic component really means is that when your body gets out of balance, sleep is the first thing that goes for you. Other people might get digestive issues or skin problems or hormone imbalances first.

The good news? When you get your body back in balance, you can sleep normally—even with a family history of insomnia.

Matt's dad later went through the same program (after seeing Matt's results), and he got better too—despite being twice Matt's age and dealing with sleep issues for decades.

The Real Problem With "Just Taking Pills"

Matt put it perfectly: taking a pill is just a band-aid. It doesn't address why you can't sleep in the first place.

If you can't sleep, something is off in your body. Maybe it's your gut. Maybe it's neurotransmitters. Maybe it's minerals or hormones or inflammation.

But there's a reason. And standard bloodwork won't show it. Your regular doctor probably won't find it.

You have to dig deeper.

If You're Going Through This Right Now

Matt's advice if you're struggling with insomnia: Don't give up hope.

Yes, it feels like you'll never sleep normally again. But you can.

Find someone who's actually going to engage with you and figure out what your specific problem is. Do your research. Get the right testing done.

You might not sleep like you did as a teenager, but you can absolutely sleep like a normal, healthy adult again.

And honestly? That's all you need.
